On this video «https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ez3RNRk0VY», Robert anxiously asks:
«What is the residue, that after you have created the functions somewhere else [on computers], you should add it to have a biological consciousness, beyond a zombie program.»
What’s that Qualia that David Chalmers takes it as the hard problem? The qualia of feeling colors, tastes and totality of the experience we experience. Max may say that, any sufficiently sophisticated system, will have such a thing as a Qualia Feeling whilst is processing information. That seems logical but I shall say:
The Qualia is the experience of only a special set of programs or information processing agents. I call them authors. I mean that systems with some kind of authorative characteristics. These agents have the unique property of owning a special model of their environment, the outside world. They have this capability of simulating the outside world within themselves. They are able to hallucinate their perception of the outer world. Kubrick’s AI is partially right when it targets at machines that dream when it wants to bring life to them. The difference between a fully functional driver and a human is that the latter has a dream. I mean a real dream. That dream that our narrative part is telling us all over our life. Yes that’s this story telling feature of us that makes us, us.
The whole world is this stage. A big story is being told. In order to enjoy this story you should have some capabilities. Not anyone can enjoy a complicated story. There may be very different attitudes toward the same story, some one finds it gloomy while others find it jubilant. To enjoy a story you should be equipped with appropriate apparatus to experience it. To enjoy a movie you should have the player device. Despite that in case of experiencing the world, this apparatus is far more complicated. And not only much more complicated quantitatively, but also with indispensable new elements. It’s a sort of authoring ingredient that should be present. A player that have some authoring power over the story. I believe it’s a sort of creativity. I mean you should be able to create a world in order to experience one. When you read a novel you should be able to replicate the scenes and characters to experience the story. You should be able to create the world and atmosphere of it. How much you are capable of imagining this world or the writer is capable to help you determines the quality of your experience.
In order to feel the world you should be able to create one. Although your world depends on the story and is limited by the words being said, it is completely a unique world created by you. I believe existence is a story being told. Somehow the story has constrained to obey the known laws of physics and be mathematically consistent. Any sentient agent is a god. Our vivid experience is the feeling of creation. And are feeling of free will and being volitional is just because we are gods. And that is the ingredient that should be controversially added to machines if one is to make a strong artificial intelligence. This experience is the purpose and also the meaning of life. We will build machines that would drive or mimic any function that humans do, but I still wonder if we will finally create such an authoring gods.
